MP-Elect Kalenzi Calls for Stronger Financial Practices at SACCO Meeting in Rwimi

Bunyangabu—Leaders and members of the Bunyangabu Cereal Farmers Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO) have been urged to adopt value addition practices and strengthen financial discipline to improve productivity and grow their cooperative.

Speaking at the SACCO’s Annual General Meeting held this afternoon, Bunyangabu County Member of Parliament-elect, Kalenzi Victor, emphasized the need for farmers to benchmark internationally, particularly in China, to learn modern techniques in cereal processing and value addition. He pledged to champion initiatives that would enable local farmers to gain exposure to global best practices.

Kalenzi further advised SACCO leadership to implement fair and competitive interest rates to attract more borrowers and stimulate growth. He also underscored the importance of sensitizing members on loan repayment to ensure sustainability of the cooperative.

The MP-elect took the opportunity to thank residents of Rwimi Town Council for their support in the recent elections, which secured his victory and entry into Parliament. He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling campaign pledges, including the provision of bursaries and delivery of an ultrasound scan machine for the town council.

In a related development, Kalenzi pledged to use personal funds to renovate Rwimi Health Centre III to improve service delivery in line with the area’s growth. He promised that the ultrasound machine for the facility would be delivered before May.

However, he expressed disappointment with the management of Kibiito Health Centre IV, citing delays in operationalizing an ultrasound machine he had previously donated, despite the evident demand for such services.

In support of the SACCO, Kalenzi made a financial contribution and purchased 50 shares, officially becoming a member of the cooperative.

On behalf of the members, Ngomayondi Abel commended the MP-elect for his support and guidance, noting that his contributions would strengthen the SACCO and benefit the farming community.

The AGM concluded with renewed calls for unity, accountability, and innovation among members as the SACCO seeks to expand its impact in Bunyangabu District.
