The district LC5 Chairperson, Peter Musinguzi has revealed that the district local government is exploring new approaches to road maintenance, including identifying reliable sources of quality murram.
Musinguzi made the remarks today shortly after a district roads committee meeting held at the district headquarters, attended by Bunyangabu County Member of Parliament Victor Kalenzi and district technical officials, including the Chief Administrative Officer and District Engineer.
Musinguzi who was also speaking as the committee chairman called on individuals and companies with quality murram quarries to contact the district as it seeks materials that can withstand heavy use and improve road conditions.
Musinguzi also said the district is working with area Members of Parliament to lobby for more road and bridge projects, saying the district is pursuing several projects, including the second phase of the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) project that is in the pipeline and climate-smart agriculture programmes under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
Musinguzi said they have already engaged Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze, who he said has agreed to consider Bunyangabu for some of the programmes.
He also referred to the four-billion-shilling bridge maintenance funding pledged by President Yoweri Museveni, saying the district will push for it.
Musinguzi urged residents, particularly farmers, to increase agricultural production so they can make better use of the improved road network to transport their produce to markets.
Speaking to Kalenzi victor, he reiterated Musinguzi’s remarks, saying they have agreed on several changes on road maintenance.
Kalenzi said the district will purchase good-quality murram that can withstand weather conditions and remain on the roads for a longer period.
