Bunyangabu County MP Victor Kalenzi has urged residents to put politics aside and focus on development and improving household incomes.
While addressing mourners at 3 separate burial ceremonies in Kabonero Sub-County yesterday called on residents to work hard to improve their livelihoods.
At the burial of Bikorwenda Lavis of Busamba One Zone, Nsororo, Kalenzi said local leaders have agreed to prioritize road maintenance, urging residents to be patient as leaders lobby for development projects in the area.
Kalenzi said residents elected their leaders to deliver development and should therefore understand that their absence from the area is due to efforts to secure services from the Central government in Kampala.
At another burial in Kasogi-Rwimi Cell, where Alinaitwe Rossetti 32, who died during childbirth, was laid to rest, a Rev. Turyahabwa Reuben of katugunda Church of Uganda cautioned residents against spreading rumours and accusations following deaths.
Rev. Turyahabwa said claims that deceased people have been bewitched or sacrificed can create hatred and conflict within families and communities, urging residents to promote peace and love and that material possession have no value after death.
Meanwhile, Kalenzi raised concern over the recent cases of maternal deaths in the area, where 4 women have allegedly died while giving birth in one month, saying leaders are investigating the possible causes.
He mentioned the use of anaesthesia during Caesarean sections as one of the possible factors, but stressed that this has not yet been established.
Kalenzi said he has asked the Bunyangabu District Health Officer to prepare a report on the maternal deaths to help establish the causes and guide possible interventions.
