Newly elected LC1 chairpersons in Kibiito Town Council, Bunyangabu District, have been urged to prioritise resolving land disputes and combating theft in their communities.
The call was made by Bunyangabu Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Akampulira Baker, during the swearing-in ceremony of the new LC1 chairpersons held at the Kibiito Town Council Hall.
A total of 21 LC1 chairpersons from the town council’s five wards were sworn in.
Baker warned that increasing cases of land wrangles and fraudulent property transactions, where individuals sell the same property to multiple buyers using illegally obtained LC1 stamps, have led to mistrust, conflicts and, in some cases, imprisonment.
He congratulated the new leaders and urged them to uphold the Constitution by serving with honesty, integrity and accountability. He also cautioned them against the misuse of official LC1 stamps, saying they should only be used for lawful purposes.
The LCIII Chairperson of Kibiito Town Council, Kabagambe Wilson, commonly known as Kiri Okay, called on the LC1 chairpersons to serve all residents equally regardless of political differences. He advised them not to seek revenge against those who did not vote for them and instead focus on promoting development in their respective communities.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in leaders, Mwesige Sezi, the LC1 Chairperson of Bubwika C Cell, appealed to his colleagues to work together in addressing land disputes. Meanwhile, Magambo Yuda Tadeo, the LC1 Chairperson of Kasali B Cell, urged fellow leaders to take a firm stance against theft by ensuring offenders are arrested and punished, describing the vice as a major challenge affecting village development.
