Kalenzi urges Members to Embrace Development-Oriented Savings

Members of Kabale Inn Bataka Tukorrehamu Association (KBTA), a community group in Kabale Inn Cell, Kabale Parish, Bunyangabu District, have been encouraged to adopt more development-focused financial strategies to improve their livelihoods.

The association, which has existed for two years and comprises more than 100 members, primarily supports its members financially during bereavement and also plans to invest in tents and chairs.

Speaking during the group’s 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), Bunyangabu County Member of Parliament-elect, Kalenzi Victor, commended the founders for their initiative in bringing members together for mutual support.

Kalenzi however, urged members to set clear goals for their savings, suggesting that a significant portion, such as 80 percent—be directed toward income-generating projects like poultry or piggery farming.

He noted that such investments would help members meet responsibilities such as educating their children and improving household incomes, cautioning against a saving culture that focuses solely on emergencies related to death.

The MP-elect also advised the group to move away from commonly adopted investment choices, particularly the purchase of tents and plastic chairs for hire, pointing out that many community groups already invest in similar assets, limiting their profitability.

Instead, he encouraged KBTA members to explore unique and sustainable income-generating ventures.

Kalenzi emphasized the need for a mindset shift toward long-term development, noting that strategic planning would not only benefit members but also set an example for other similar groups in the district.

In response, KBTA members expressed gratitude for both the financial support and guidance provided, noting that the advice offered would have a lasting impact beyond monetary contributions.
