Bunyangabu Selected for Major Development Under LEGS Project Phase II

Bunyangabu District has been selected among 55 districts across the country to benefit from the second phase of the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project, a multi-million-dollar initiative aimed at strengthening local economic infrastructure and improving community livelihoods.

The program, implemented by the Ministry of Local Government with financial backing from the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, focuses on boosting local economic growth through strategic investments in infrastructure.

According to Christopher Tusiime, Communications Officer for Bunyangabu District, the project will prioritize key facilities that support community productivity and trade. These include the construction and improvement of community access roads, markets, water systems for production, and agro-processing facilities.

One of the notable developments under the initiative is the improvement of Kagera Market in Kyamukube Town Council. The upgraded market is designed to provide farmers with a clean and organized space to sell their produce, improving trade conditions and helping local farmers access better market opportunities.

District leaders say the second phase of the project will focus on addressing local development gaps while strengthening economic activities at the community level.

The initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth across participating districts by improving infrastructure that supports agriculture, trade, and small-scale industries.

The development highlights Bunyangabu’s growing opportunities for socio-economic transformation through targeted government and international support programs.
