Engineers from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development on 12th August 2026 visited Rwimi Sub-county in Bunyangabu District to assess the performance of the electricity supply project and map areas that require further extension of power.
This follows complaints from residents over intermittent electricity supply since the project was commissioned last year.
The officials, led by Ministry engineer John Baptist Male, were taken around the sub-county by LC3 Chairperson Robert Mwangushya where they identified several challenges.
Male said most of the issues identified would be addressed by the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), including stabilizing the main power line and addressing intermittent supply.
The assessment also found that some transformers had been installed far from major electricity users, including welders and grain mill operators, limiting their ability to access adequate and reliable power.
Mwangushya said residents had reported several problems, including malfunctioning transformers, transformers that had never operated since installation and others whose supply had remained intermittent.
He said the complaints prompted him to petition the Ministry of Energy to intervene and establish the causes of the electricity challenges in the sub-county. The mapping exercise is expected to guide plans for extending electricity to areas that remain underserved while also helping address existing supply challenges in Rwimi Sub County.
