The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Disputes Tribunal has officially dismissed a petition challenging the victory of Kalenzi Victor in the recently concluded NRM primary elections for the Bunyangabu County parliamentary seat.
The decision reaffirms Kalenzi as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
In its ruling dated August 7, 2025, the Tribunal chaired by John Musiime found no sufficient evidence to substantiate claims that electoral irregularities had a material impact on the outcome of the election.
The petition, filed by Asaba Brian, alleged a range of electoral malpractices during the July 17 primaries, including voter intimidation, violence, voter bribery, tampering with voter registers, ineligible voters, and campaigning on polling day.
While the Tribunal acknowledged that Asaba had raised concerns, it concluded that the evidence provided did not meet the threshold required to nullify the election results.
Notably, neither Asaba nor his key witness, Mujwera Simon Peter, presented specific details or identities of the alleged ineligible voters.
The ruling stated that the petitioner failed to prove the allegations to the required standard and as such, the Tribunal finds no grounds to annul the election or order a fresh poll.
Kalenzi Victor secured a decisive victory in the primaries with 26,904 votes, defeating Asaba Brian, who garnered 15,370 votes.
With this ruling, Kalenzi not only solidifies his position as the NRM candidate but also reinforces his growing political influence in Bunyangabu, a constituency where he is already credited for impactful community initiatives even prior to assuming parliamentary office
