Ten electric poles are set to be installed along the Karambi–Lyamabwa road in Kisomoro Sub-county, Bunyangabu District, to enhance electricity distribution in the area.

This development follows concerns raised by local leaders, including the Kisomoro Sub-county LC III Chairperson, Amanyire Stephen, who revealed that the community has lived in total darkness for over 13 years. Despite several attempts to engage the relevant public offices, he said no action had been taken—until now.

The electric poles were officially handed over yesterday in Lyamabwa by CEO Victor Kalenzi, who is aspiring to become the next Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu County.

Speaking at the event, Amanyire urged residents to elect committed leaders like Kalenzi in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Barozi Yoweri, a resident of Kahondo village in Lyamabwa, shared that they have been petitioning authorities about the electricity issue since 2018, but their pleas had gone unanswered.

Joyce Muhenda, another resident from Karambi II, expressed disappointment in leaders elected during the 2021–2026 term, saying many failed to fulfill their campaign promises. She stated her intention to vote more wisely in the 2026–2031 general elections.

Residents emphasized how the lack of electricity has hindered economic activities such as operating salons, photocopying services, ironing, and other small businesses.

Baguma Pius, a welder, said he is thrilled about the new development. He explained how he has long struggled to transport his workpieces to Kibiito and Nyakigumba—areas with electricity—for finishing. He praised CEO Victor Kalenzi Ateenyi for his consistent support and contribution to the community.

Asaba Sarapio warned that current leaders who have hindered the area’s development will be held accountable in the upcoming elections.

Karatunga Robert, the LC I Chairperson of Lyamabwa, also commended CEO Kalenzi for initiating the electrification process. He expressed optimism that the introduction of electricity would create numerous job opportunities and hailed Kalenzi as a visionary and dedicated leader.
