Kibiito Council Leaders Raise Alarm Over Uncollected Garbage in Market

Council leaders in Kibiito Town Council have expressed deep concern over the growing heaps of uncollected garbage in Kibiito Market, warning that the situation poses serious health and environmental risks.

During a meeting held yesterday to discuss the 2025/2026 budget, Kasamba Annet, the district councilor representing Kibiito Town Council, raised the issue, urging immediate action from local authorities. She emphasized that the poor waste management in the market could lead to the spread of diseases and environmental degradation.

Kasamba also called on town council leaders to stop closing and locking the market toilets too early, explaining that this forces people to resort to unhygienic practices, such as defecating in polythene bags and dumping them within the market premises. She warned that if not addressed, this could further worsen sanitation issues in the area.

Additionally, she urged the town council to install proper lighting in the market to prevent illegal waste dumping at night. She noted that darkness provides an opportunity for people to dispose of garbage indiscriminately, further exacerbating the sanitation crisis.

The council meeting underscored the urgent need for improved waste management and sanitation measures in Kibiito Market, with leaders calling for swift intervention to safeguard public health and the environment.
